Andrew Baker is the Principal Consultant at Cloud Scale.

Andrew currently lls the following roles:
• CTO of Capitec (South Africa’s biggest
digital bank with 18 million clients)
• Advisor (a “Revolutionary”) at the
US cyber company, Zscaler
• Advisor to Sybrin a leading
software developer
In 2023 Andrew was “CTO of the Year” and
Capitec was awarded the “Excellence in Digital
Banking” award at the Connected Banking
Summit Southern Africa – Innovation &
Excellence Awards, 2023.
Andrew’s expertise spans pioneering the
development of trading platforms, through to creating
stable, secure and highly scalable IT environments for
large enterprises (such as ABSA and Capitec). He is Cloud
and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) certied and has
completed a number of large ZTNA deployments at
multiple large banks across many countries.
In recent years, Andrew has steered ABSA and Capitec
through their secure digital transformations.

As ABSA Group CTO, during the pandemic, he initiated a
zero-trust project ensuring more than 50,000 users
across 14 operating companies on the continent would
be secure working from anywhere.
Andrew is a leader in advising on all facets of
cloud computing, from high-level strategy to in-
depth technical and architecture reviews and
audits of review cloud environments and cyber
controls for zero trust networks.
